My name is Chiedza Dziruni. I’m 17 and live in Johannesburg. I like science and math and although I don’t take art at school, I still really love it. I am a huge KPOP fan and in my spare time, I draw portraits of my favourite idols. KPOP is a genre of popular music originating in South Korea and is now a very popular subculture amongst teenagers and young adults. I am the oldest of triplets and, in my opinion, the most competent, though I am very shy. When I’m older, I want to be a scientist, which should be soon considering I’m in matric. I’m autistic and often struggle with expressing my thoughts, which is why I love art so much. I can express myself without words.
The unforgiving coronavirus performs its latest assassination. The art displays a golden clown mask taken off an unsuspecting victim. Next to the mask lies the body and the clown’s comic red nose with a swab sticking out of it. This piece depicts the idiosyncrasy of the times – how foolish the situation is that left us with masks over our faces and swabs up our noses – yet you still die at the hand of the skilled assassin
