Terms And Conditions
INTRODUCTION
These Terms and Conditions (general contest rules) shall be binding on you upon submitting an entry to our COVID-19: where art meets science project.
These rules apply to all COVID-19: where art meets science participants. Special rules may apply to particular participants, in which case an addendum to these Terms and Conditions will be made.
This project is designed for individuals who have not received under- and/or post-graduate scientific training.
Any creative concept will be considered for the project regardless of the artistic medium.
All finalists are required to participate in a workshop with scientists, refine their ideas and complete a final submission on deadline; as well as participate in an online exhibition, before being eligible for any prizes.
At the point of completing an entry form, participants give us consent to send them evaluation requests (short survey forms) that they are obliged to complete.
Any participation in this project shall be deemed an unconditional acceptance by you of these rules. All instructions for entry and any other specific details relating to the project or the prizes form part of these rules.
By entering the competition, participants will be deemed to have read and understood these rules and be bound by them.
ELIGIBILITY
You must be an African national (born in an African country) and between the ages of 16 and 39 on the date you complete your entry form.
To avoid any form of conscious or unconscious prejudice, winners will be judged by an independent committee on visual impact alone – none of your personal details will be revealed to the judges.
You may complete as many entries as you like. However employees and immediate families of SANTHE and the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) may not apply.
You must provide personal details as reasonably requested to do so by the organising committee. Refusal to comply will result in disqualification from the project.
If anybody has helped you with your work, this must be communicated to the organisers.
The Organising Committee consists of members of the SANTHE Secretariat and other members of SANTHE or the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) that may have a direct role to play in the formulation and implementation of the project.
Judging: A panel of judges will be selected by the Organising Committee. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
PRIZES
The final prizes include monetary awards. These prizes will be given for outstanding creativity and expression as well as 100% adherence to the project terms and conditions.
Where a winner chooses not to accept a prize, is not contactable (after all reasonable efforts have been made), or does not furnish proper banking details, they forfeit any and all claims to their prize, which will be dealt with at the absolute discretion of the Organising Committee without any liability to the winner(s) for having done so.
All prizes are accepted entirely at the risk of the winner.
Prizes are not transferable.
The Organising Committee reserves the absolute right to disqualify any participant which it considers has used improper means to qualify for a prize.
COPYRIGHT
By participating in the project, you agree to share copyright of your work with SANTHE and its affiliated partners (funders and partner programmes) without an expiry date. Copyright refers to the legal right of the owner (you) of intellectual property (your artwork). Put simply, copyright is the right to copy. This means that you and anyone you give authorisation to (SANTHE and affiliates) are the only ones with the exclusive right to reproduce your work. We require this right as we may want to use your artwork and associated information in our communication materials (news, reports, presentations, etc.) for as long as long as we need to fulfil our obligations to our funders, our scientific colleagues, our research communities, and others.
All participants are entitled to use any artworks they produce as part of this project, as part of their academic studies.
When you submit your entry form to us, you will have to agree that you have read, understand and agree to the terms and conditions outlined above.
